K59 sits on El Salvador's Pacific coastal highway, the Carretera Litoral (CA-2). It is about 45 minutes from Aeropuerto Internacional de El Salvador (SAL, also called Comalapa), and about 50 minutes from San Salvador. The nearest town hub is Puerto de La Libertad, roughly 25 minutes away by road.

Flights from the United States are usually short hops: about five hours from the West Coast, about two and a half hours from Florida, and within about five hours from many other U.S. cities. Carriers such as Avianca often offer convenient schedules, so on an early arrival you can be in the water the same morning, and on departure day you can surf in the morning before an afternoon flight. El Salvador uses the U.S. dollar, which keeps daily spending simple for international guests.
K59 is a strong beach setup with a powerful right, hollow sections, and fast walls on the right swell and tide.
K61 is another right point about 500 meters (0.31 mile) from K59, with longer walls and barrels on good days. From the lineup, the view along the coast toward the points and headlands is memorable.
The hills behind the coast add shade and green relief, and short hikes in the area are a calm contrast to time in the water.
Local surfers here surf with pace and control, and the vibe in the lineup stays respectful for visitors who wait their turn and share waves.
The owner and manager of K59 Surf Resort is local surfer Edgard Ziegele (often called Edgard or Chele Schleusz). He has surfed since 1982, has run surf-focused lodging since 1999, and was among the first locals riding K59 in the early 1980s.
Planning your visit
Most guests rent a car or book a trusted airport transfer because the resort sits directly on CA-2 with clear mile markers and easy access to La Libertad for groceries, restaurants, and ATMs. Cell coverage along the coast is generally solid, but it still helps to download offline maps before you travel. Pack a regular shortboard or hybrid for K59, and something with a bit more paddle if you want relaxed sessions at nearby points such as Sunzal on smaller days.
If you are new to reef breaks, ask about tide windows and entry paths before you paddle out. The team on site can point you to softer options nearby when K59 is overhead and fast.
Guests driving the Surf City strip often ask about km markers, cash stops, and respectful lineup habits near famous breaks. Those topics sit on a dedicated page: Surf City La Libertad coast guide (km markers, services, and lineup tips near K59).

Surfing around La Libertad puts several famous spots within a short drive of K59. Punta Roca (historically tied to the Roca de Tepeagua name) is a world-class right, fast and hollow, and it can pack in on weekends. Conchalio is a beach break with punchy tubes when the sand lines up, and it can feel empty on the right tide. La Bocana is a river-mouth left with playful sections on many days. Sunzal is a long, forgiving right that suits longboards and shortboards and spreads crowds across a long wall. Mizata mixes point and beach options with mellower energy and fewer people on average.
When K59 is firing and your room sits a short walk from the sand, most groups end up wanting to stay close and surf the home wave as long as the swell allows.

More on waves and season
Surf in El Salvador runs almost year-round. The most consistent window is March through October. September can bring heavier rain and onshore flow, yet it can also deliver larger swell for experienced surfers. November and December often average chest to head-high surf, with occasional bigger, clean pulses. January and February trend smaller and softer, ideal for longboards, SUP, or technique work, and a waist-high swell can still produce fun sessions at the points.

Note:
Surfing, like any active sport, carries some injury risk. While you are in El Salvador, we point guests to Hospital de Diagnostico when advanced care is needed. It is about one hour away by car on a normal traffic day, and it is widely used by international visitors. The facility works with many international health plans and major credit cards. For minor cuts, reef scrapes, or dehydration, local clinics in La Libertad can handle basic urgent care faster than a long drive into the city.
